Turkish Toilets talk about their debut single, “Chicken Addict”

Picture: credit to the photographer Hello Turkish Toilets, thanks for your time. Would it be possible to introduce your band to our readers, as well as your roles in it? Hi Distrolution! Thanks for having us. First of all, we are a group of friends, it’s like a small family of drunk beavers! Our major influences are: Justin Bieber, Sepultura, and Carlos the french legend of pop music. We spend most of our time drinking hot beers on the highway and completing our collection of lapel pins. Lolo (Drums): he’s sweating his big balls to keep us on track, hammering the kick like a seagull on meth. Mimo (Guitars): he brings a breath of fresh air to our guitar solo with a splash of vanilla latex and pre-cum. He always finds inspiration in wet muffins and beer. Axel (Bass): He’s just here to bring beers and unlead the music gear from the car and also to put some shitty farts on the record. Fred (Vocals/Guitars): He’s our dedicated tattooed screaming frontman. He brings us fat drops with his loud guitar and nasty lyrics. Violent as Rambo but sensitive as Boy George. How would you describe the rock / grunge scene where you are based? The Local Grunge rock scene in our hometown of La Ciotat is not very large, but we do our best to keep it rocking! Marseille though 25km away and the second largest city in France is a great place to rock’n’roll. There is a lot of venues, large and small and a lot bars for your gigs! You've released back in 2019 your debut single titled “Chicken Addict”. What's the story behind this song? The story behind this song? Pretty silly! We were coming back from a gig, it was quite late. We were pretty wasted and high, and back luck for us, we were stopped by a Police car. To be honest, none of us can exactly remember what happened the next minute, but we all remember the female cop that go out of the car! At first, we though it was a joke ‘cause she was so hot! It turned out she was really cool and after giving us a lecture she let us go. The first words that came out of Fred’s mouth were: “Les gars, je crois que je suis accro à cette poulette!” which means “Guys, I think i’m addicted to that chick!” We started cracking up (laughs)! The funny thing is that he said “poulette”, in french slang we call the cops ”poulets” (Chicken). The rest of the conversation revolved around what he would to do to her, and how he would let her sit on his face. The song was born! This single is taken from your upcoming EP “Succès Nous”, out in September 2020. How long have you worked on this EP? It took us a long time. We started the recording sessions way back in September 2018, so it took us 18 months in total. But we’re just talking here about a finished product. We basically had the material for the EP, we just needed to find money and proper time all together to work and focus on it. All the tracks on the EP had been on our setlists for years, some even from the first years of the band, between 2008 and 2012. We composed a lot of songs since Axel Joined us in 2012, working in different directions and broadening our horizons with more metal, slow tempo, or love songs, but fuck it! We wanted our first EP to be closer to our punk identity, with fast tracks and pure energy! We rearranged and reworked every track in the recording studio though. So it’s been a long process (laughs)! How’s your usual writing process and where do you find your inspiration? As we said earlier, we are all about the group, the friendship and the good moments we can spend having fun and enjoying life together, it does reflect in our writing process. Usually Fred comes with a skeleton of a song. Even just a chorus sometimes, and then we try things, each member coming with ideas or not, some riffs or just a couple lyrics. We’re basically building the songs all together. Obviously our lyrics are not poetry, but they are full of life, full of the good moments life gave us, the silly stuff, the friendship... We try to put all this in our music, we want people to enjoy it as much as we did making it, feeling the energy and the fucking fun! The last words are for you. If you have a message to convey, here’s your chance! If you love loud rock’n’roll, beer, and making love to juicy grandmothers, come party with us! We are the really dead poets society (laughs)!
