The Crown discuss new record, “Royal Destroyer”

Hello The Crown, thanks for your time. You celebrated your 30th anniversary in 2020. Looking back, what is your best memory / accomplishment as a band? I think our best accomplishment is that we had the strength to come back after we quit in 2004 when everything looked dark. It took a couple of years but now we are back in full force again having a strong stable line up and still releasing relevant albums after 31 years. That's a great accomplishment in my book. With a worldwide pandemic going on, how have you handled the management of your band over the past few months? We focused 110% on making Royal Destroyer last year. Other than that, we haven't done anything besides doing PR and such. No live shows are allowed so we just live our lives the best we can and starting to focus more and more on the next album. We already have written most of the songs for album No
11. And I think we'll start rehearsals in a couple of months. You've dropped back in March 2021 your new record, “Royal Destroyer”. How long have you worked on this release? We worked pretty long with it. We were supposed to enter the studio already in May 2020 but Covid put an end to that, so we had some extra months to polish the songs and make an even better album when we finally entered Studio Fredman in October 2020. Any funny stories to share from your recording or writing sessions? The whole process went so smooth in the studio. 7 days was all we needed. It was a day and night experience with plenty of booze and rock n roll. Hard to tell any specific story but it was all fun except when Marko accidentally deleted my vocals after one too many drinks (laughs). If you had to pick one song that, according to you, best reflects the overall spirit of this album… Which one would you pick and why? “Let the hammering begin” is for me the strongest song. A lot of energy, speed and heavyness combined in a great package. Something Magnus is an expert in creating. But I love all songs on the album. I think this is one of our strongest releases yet. You guys have a lot of merch available. In general, is there a merch item that you attach particular importance to? If yes, which one? Yeah, we have really stepped up in that area lately. I think all new merchandise at our new webstore is great and we work around really talented people. I have no particular favorite. They are all worthy of wearing hehe. Check it out at www.thecrownofficial.com! The last words are for you. If you have a message to convey, here’s your chance! Thanks for the interview. Let's hope for some shows in France in a near future. Cheers, Johan
