Punk rock quartet Screech Bats have dropped their sophomore EP ‘Wish You Were Her’ on 30th March 2018. The band has also recently unveiled a music video for their song ‘That Valentine Song’, from the record.
On this release, the band explains:
“This song is about that total piece of shit ex you can’t ever believe you dated. It’s about being completely and utterly devoted to a person who doesn’t give a fuck about you. Putting up with someone who puts you down at every turn, leaches all your money, calls you a whore, tells you how to do your hair, make-up and what to wear… You don’t acknowledge just how badly they are treating you because you love them. Looking back on the situation you realise that you’ve been taken for a fool and made to look like an absolute clown. We wanted to play on that clown-like feeling and total shame, hence the wonderful make-up by Rachael Delahunty. The smoke represents all the bullshittery you can’t see through, but every now and then things comes into focus. We wanted to keep this video performance based because it’s us being our true selves (with added symbolism). We filmed a few versions, each in one take, which left little room to edit and compile bits together, completely contrasting to our previous video for ‘Get Better’. By the end of it we had 2 favourite takes and we couldn’t settle on which one to use, so decided to layer both of them, creating that double exposure look. This was a super fun video to shoot, the room was so smokey we could barely see each other whilst filming!”.
