Metallers Warkunt talk about latest single and upcoming projects!

Picture: Suprahead Studio Hello Warkunt, thanks for your time. Would it be possible to introduce your band to our readers, as well as your roles in it? Loïc: Hello, thanks for your interest! We are Warkunt from Strasbourg in France, and we play death metal. Warkunt was created in 2016 by Laurent (guitarist), Valentin (guitarist), Tim (bassist) and alcohol! Later joined Martin our first drummer, and then me on the vocals. In the beginning, we started playing some covers from bands like Bolt Thrower, Cannibal Corpse, Six Feet Under, Entombed etc... We played some gigs, and in february 2017, we released our first demo called "Tor(n)ment" on a digital support. Later in 2017, during the writing process of our debut album entitled "Of Ruins and Agony", joined our actual drummer Gregoire Galichet. He also plays in other bands such as Deathcode Society, Glaciation, Vent Debout, Dead Seasons, and Killing Spree. Val: Guitare. How did you guys meet and how did Warkunt form? Laurent: I was in a gig with Tim and we've met Val, a crappy band was playing while we were outside smoking and drinking. Val was shouting some random insults at a stranger. That made me laugh and we started to talk. As every drunk metalheads, after sharing a few beers we decided to form a band. Val: Alcool. You released back in December 2019 a music video for your single “Dark Days to Come”. How was the shooting experience? Loïc: We had a very good time drinking beers in our rehearsal room the whole day haha! Because yes, it was filmed in our rehearsal room by Suprahead Studio aka Ricardo Gomes (ex-Absurdity) in Haguenau, north of Strasbourg. And we're very happy with the work he did in a very short period of time (one day for the shooting, and not even a week for the video montage). Laurent: For me, it wasn’t a good experience because I had the Flu (not the covid, thanks). So I came in our rehearsal room (that’s where the shooting was), sick as fuck and I had to play the whole song 6 times, headbanging like I was on stage. Nevertheless Ricardo, the director of Suprahead Studio was very professional, and he managed to lead me very well. Val: Cool. What's the story behind this song? Loïc: It's talking about a man crushed and imprisoned by the weight of his own feelings and thoughts. Val: Emprisonnement émotionnel (Emotional imprisonment). How’s your usual writing process for your songs? Loïc: Oh waw...it's a fucking mess. I am never satisfied, I can write during 2 hours, scratch everything because I don't like it, restart again, fuck it up again, restart... Man, the writing process is long and complicated for me. I'm often lost in all the shit going on in my mind. Laurent: Usually, I bring some riffs and we work in rehearsal to make something of it, there is no pattern for our creative process. Sometimes, somebody write a song from A to Z and we use it. But most of the time we work together, face to face. Val: Playing guitar together bla bla bla... You had several concerts planned that you had to cancel because of the Covid-19 epidemic. It must be frustrating for a band like yours, that loves playing live so much. Do you plan to reschedule these dates later this year? Loïc: Yes it is! We were really excited about these two gigs in Strasbourg and Kehl (Germany). But well, all of this was out of the hands of everyone. Laurent: We had to cancel two gigs, in two venues we really like: the Molodoi in Strasbourg and the Juke in Kehl (Germany). By the way the Juke is a great venue at only 5 minutes from Strasbourg and they manage to make a lot of bands play, they really deserve more attention in France. Anyway... I think it’s gonna be postponed... Val: Yes.

Speaking of live dates. Tell us when we can see you live next. Loïc: Unfortunately, since Covid-19 outbreak, we only have one gig in 2021. But I think it's the right time to compose some new stuff. 2 new songs are complete, and the lyrics are in progress. At least, I try haha. Laurent: Those next months, we are gonna focus on our new album, so.... Unfortunately, not a lot of gigs are coming. We only have scheduled one show in 2021 in Switzerland with our brothers from Devil's Rage (Hi trous de culs). Val: Next year. The last words are for you. If you have any other projects in the making, here’s your chance to talk about it! Loïc: Thanks a lot for your interview and your interest! Thanks to all people giving a fuck about what we like to do, death metal! And for supporting us since 2016 or more recently. Take care of yourselves and your loved ones and stay safe. Laurent: I'm really looking forward to propose you new stuff. We have a few new songs ready and they sound more dark and brutal than the first album. Val: Nope. Thanks for your time!
