Meet the 3-piece alternative rock band, Bosola!

Hello Bosola, thanks for your time. Would it be please possible to introduce your band to our readers? Hi Valentine, thanks for having us. We are Bosola, a 3-piece alternative rock band from Newcastle Upon Tyne in the North East of England. Tim plays guitars, sings and writes the songs. Pete plays bass and Emma plays the drums. We just dropped our first studio EP which is called 'How Sick I Became Running From Myself'. With a worldwide pandemic going on, how have you handled the management of your music project over the past few months? We kind of used the pandemic to develop the songs and make it a project which had a bigger, more mature sound which took the songs to new places. Before lockdown I was a singer songwriter playing acoustic gigs. It's hard to get the emotion of a song across as an acoustic act. You've recently dropped your new single, “This Time Buddy, It's All on You”. What's the story behind this song and where did you find your overall inspiration for this track? The song is about feeling betrayed by your mates and the people you love. It's about a time when I felt really low in my mid 20s and felt angry at the people around me all the time. In hindsight it wasn't that bad and we were able to come through those issues so I wrote the music to be quite upbeat and transcendent. https://soundcloud.com/pillarartistspr/bosola-this-time-buddy-its-all-on-you This song is taken from your EP “How Sick I Became, Running from Myself”. What kind of songs can we expect on this release? As an EP it's a bit of an emotional rollercoaster and it's about my experiences in my mid-twenties where everything seemed to come off the rails for a few years. So, there are loud angry songs about betrayal, a hopeful tune (Soil & Dust) about new relationships, some unhinged blues called The Social Moth which is about living for the weekend and the alienation that went hand in hand with that. The last song, 'Find Your Peace' was written in the days following the sudden death of a family member, so has a more sparse and bleak arrangement. The EP although quite dark on the face of things has an undertone of hope within it. These were all experiences which helped me to understand myself and come to some sense of self-acceptance. We have just signed with Deliberator Records who will be releasing a physical release of the EP in the next few weeks so look out for that. How long have you worked on it and how's your usual writing process? I've been writing the songs for about 2 years and they've developed over time. My usual process for writing is that I'll write some lyrics, detune my guitar to some stupid open tunings and just play and play until I've got the melody, hook, choruses etc. Then I take them to Pete and Emma and they give the idea a back bone and a sense of direction. Then hopefully we get the ideas recorded. Any funny stories to share from your recording or writing sessions? We are currently in the studio recording our second EP and we were recording a new song called 'Ophelia Headstrong'. It’s a really heavy surf rock style track and I was pretty sure I'd written this awesome riff as part of the solo/breakdown. I laid down the guide track and put this solo on as if I was Buddy Holly mixed with Bob Mould. I went back into the desk room in the studio and James, the producer asked me to sit down and told me we might have a copyright issue. My heart dropped as he played Enola Gay by Orchestral Manoeuvres In the Dark to me. The solo was actually one of the most well-known riffs of all time. It wasn't particularly funny at the time but I'm sure I'll laugh at some point. I’m sure you are, like a lot of people, missing live shows. Do you already have some dates planned for 2021? Yeah we do, and I feel quite lucky as it's not been easy to get gigs recently. We are headlining Bobiks in Newcastle upon Tyne on the 16th of July which is a reduced capacity gig because of Covid. We are supporting Buffet Lunch at the same venue in December. We also have a gig planned with a couple of sick bands from Newcastle called HolidayinTokyo and HoneyFlux in September. The last words are for you. If you have a message to convey, here’s your chance! Yes, well first and foremost we would love for anyone reading to listen to our EP and follow us as we have big plans for the next year or so. We can't get wait to get out and play live for people. So if there are any promoters in North East England reading or indeed from Scotland, please get in contact! Thanks for your time!
