Hello Igloo Banana. Let’s start this written interview by introducing your band to our readers!
Igloo Banana is a crazy pop punk band from 4 Toulouse friends. We are mostly inspired by the great Californian bands of the 90s/2000s like Blink 182, Nofx, Offspring, RHCP... Our goal is to have fun on stage and transmit this energy to the public. Due to personal projects of some former members, the lineup has slightly changed over the years, but the passion is always the same. And the family is getting bigger and bigger! Recently, a new rhythm guitarist / vocalist has joined the band to help us keep upgrading our live shows. We are pleased to present Jack, from the band Wild Noblesse.
So don't wait any longer, put on your most beautiful Vans, get out your most punky skateboard, have a good sip of beer and come join us in this fabulous philanthropic adventure.
What are your thoughts on the underground music scene in Toulouse, France?
In Toulouse, there are very good bands in various styles: rap, metal and rock… We think there are really great things to do. The problem today is that apart from the big concert stage, all small or medium-sized stages are closing one after the other. So, we have to fight for the local music scene to continue to exist.
Hopefully, there are some organizations like Big Pheel Crew or Löwen that are trying to boost this scene by organizing jam sessions, live sessions in bars and connecting bands together.
You released, a few months ago, a music video for your single “Where Is My F****** Dog”. What's the story behind this song?
Indeed, we have an EP in production and we have decided to release this Live clip in an emblematic room in Toulouse "Le Connexion". It was a great moment for the band to play on this stage and to be able to capture a live video. It's a shame that this scene has to close soon... But let’s go back to the story behind the music *Laughs*
To be fair, we think we all already knew this situation where you wake up and you don’t remember where your dog is. It’s a sensitive topic that can affect everyone, and we definitely think this issue should appear more in the mainstream media.
*Smoke on his pipe, installed on a tweed armchair*
We deeply believe that we must contribute to help people to speak their mind on the topic and build together a world that is a safe space for all people that are searching for their dogs.
You mentioned that you're currently preparing an EP. Would you mind sharing more info on this upcoming release? When is it due?
Yes indeed! It will be our very first EP although we have already been doing live shows for some years. This will be the occasion to promote our music on social platforms and share our vibes with a larger number of people. The idea is really to make people want to come to see us on stage!
Today, we have several mature titles for recording, we have 3 titles being mixed and mastered. We also have a clip in preparation for one of our songs "God Save The Beer". We will release the title on streaming platforms and publish the video.
Then, we want to release the other songs in single format gradually before the main EP. We aim to release the clip and the song before our opening date for Les Fatal Picard at Le Bikini.
What kind of songs can we expect on this EP and how long have you worked on it?
We have some really catchy songs all in an effective muscled pop-punk style!
The current line-up was formed just before COVID, so we reworked existing sounds and also composed new tracks. All this has been proven by the shows. It is really the core of our music.
We have been working for 1 year to polish our tracks and have a release to the public, including working during weekends on a remote farm in the Pyrenees! Today, we think we are ready to show the result and we are proud of it.
I noticed on your socials that you are often playing shows. Is there one show that really stood out to you? If yes, which one and why?
Indeed, we love to share our touch of madness through the show, it gives a dimension to the music.
This year, it's hard to remember a date, for the place and the quality of the hall I would say "Le Connexion" in Toulouse. It's an emblematic hall we have been able to play at several times and it always gives chills to perform over there.
For the electrical atmosphere where several nationalities mix in a winter sports festival: AVORIAZ at the “Rock On Snowboard Tour”. Every year, it's incredible. The people are hyper receptive to our music and the place at 2000m altitude is incredible. It’s an important date for IGLOO BANANA.
What’s on your merch table and, as a band and music fans, what’s your favorite merch item?
We are currently working on a series of t-shirts. This will be our very first official merch. After this first wave, we plan to make hoodies and caps. This is clearly the type of merch that fits our style, and we will be the first to wear them!
We also think about other merch, maybe something more unusual. We once were offered a pair of merch socks from a festival where we were invited, and we loved the idea.
The last words are for you. Thanks for your time!
