Dissenting Minds discuss new record, “Fly in The Face of God”
Artwork: @elvenart_ Hello Dissenting Minds, thanks for your time. Would it be please possible to introduce your band to our readers? Hi Valentine! Thank you very much for having us. We formed in 2019 in Athens, Greece. We are George Triantafyllidis (Guitar/Vocals), Spyros Vasilakis (Guitars) and Anastasis Katsos (Drums). Our music influences in the dark spectrum of metal, combined with the idea of a dystopic concept inspired us to create Dissenting Minds. What's the story behind your band's name? We wanted a name that represents the anti-establishment and radical nature of the album concept. The meaning of a dissenting mind for us is that of an individual that opposes and confronts a status quo that is decaying. A group of those individuals will eventually bring a change for a better and more human world. How would you describe the Greek rock / metal scene? The Greek scene, fortunately, has many great bands worth listening to. The underground scene is active and many notable metal bands exist. Furthermore, fans tend to support their local musicians whenever possible. You've recently dropped your debut album, titled “Fly in The Face of God”. What kind of songs can we expect on this record, for those who haven’t listened to it yet? The style of our band is that of post-black metal with heavy and death elements. Our main influences that are distinct in our music are Paradise Lost, Harakiri for the Sky, Katatonia, Gojira and Behemoth. Other influential bands that are not so distinct are Death, Leprous, In Flames and Dark Tranquillity. How long have you worked on it? The whole process began in 2019. Our main concern was that the music would progress seamlessly from track to track and match the concept musically. The completion took about 1 year (recording-mixing-mastering). You've also released a single, titled “Arcane Shadow”. What's the story behind this song? The main character behind the song is "Shadow". In the concept, Shadow is a hacker from the rebel side that successfully infiltrates the mind of the protagonist. He provokes his mind constantly and gives him all the right information about what is really happening on the dystopic world portrayed in the album. In the mind of the "Hunter", he appears like a dark and mysterious figure. You can read the whole story in the physical copy of our album. The last words are for you.
