Dani Llamas is coming back in 2018 with a new solo album ”Dead Labor” out on vinyl February 14th!
Born in 1980 in Jerez, Dani Llamas is one of the greatest songwriter in the Spanish indie scene. He’s best known as the leader of the punk rock band GAS Drummer. But since 2009, he ran a solo career with more personal and instropective songs.
Obviously folk, but also close to Indie Pop and American Folk Rock, and not so far from punk rock classics, ”Dead Labor” - his third LP - is a summary of these various political and musical influences.
Moreover, the LP is named after a Karl Marx quote :
”Capital is dead labour, that, vampire-like, only lives by sucking living labour, and lives the more, the more labour it sucks.”
Dead Labor will also be released digitally on One Week Records, the label of Lagwagon’s singer, Joey Cape :
"I have now listened to it so many times that it seems like a classic already. It has the feel of an undiscovered standard to my ears. I know the arrangements and most of the lyrics. Dani’s words are moving and perfectly fitting to his music, which is rare to begin with. But even more impressive considering Dani’s native tongue is not English. Dani is from Spain. It is also rare to find a record that I can directly link to its predecessors while still finding originality in every barre”.
9 songs about his personal life and political engagements, that were written while listening to Ryan Adams, the Replacements, Husker Dü and David Bazan. ”Dead Labor” is a brilliant and mature album, both in the songwriting than in its political side.
