Black Lake talk about the French rock scene and latest EP!
Hello, Black Lake! Thanks for your time! For those who don’t know you yet, would you mind introducing your band to our readers? Hi Distrolution, hi everyone, thank you Valentine, we are delighted to answer your questions. We are Black Lake, from Nantes. The band comes peacefully on its 6 years of longevity. It grows, matures and evolves as we do. To make it simple, we play hard rock with its strong musical nuances in the southern United States. A little blues, a little southern rock, stoner, punk and everything that moves the body or head in general. We call it Heavy Rock. How would you describe the French rock scene, in general? The French rock scene and generally the attitude of "people" towards rock in France is very surprising. There are a lot of very good bands in all the ramifications of rock; many organizers, many amateurs and enthusiasts, but very little visibility and impact in the mainstream media. The gap is large with some of our neighboring countries. However, it does not prevent it from being bubbling, especially in our western part of the country. How do you manage your time between your personal life and the band? Isn’t it hard? Good question. I think it all depends on the goals you set yourself with your group. At Black Lake, we have all our respective trades, but music is our passion, our outlet, our oxygen bubble. This is what balances us and keeps us on course in the chaos of modern times. So the dilemma is rather obvious: there will always be time for music. Your EP "Blast" was released back in February 2019. Would you mind introducing this song to our readers? Our EP "Blast" has 5 songs, each with its own color, function and energy. We tried to rewrite in the studio, the spontaneity and vitality of our stage performances. We are very satisfied with the result and from the first to the last note, we think we have managed to maintain this intensity. Our first EP was recorded at Chipolata Framboise Studio, with Fabien Le Floch (Ultra Vomit) who gave us a lot of valuable advice both in writing and in the studio approach. For "Blast", we went back to the Brown Bear Recording with Arthur Lauth, with the firm intention of crossing a new bridge at all levels. Its efficiency in understanding where we wanted to go allowed us to achieve our goals quickly, which allowed us time to refine the arrangements. Tell us one thing no one else knows about this record. On the song "River", you can hear a choir of about ten voices. This is "only" Sylvain (singing/guitar) who has been able to reproduce lines of voices from the most severe to the most acute. A great moment! If you had to pick one song on this EP that best reflects its overall spirit, which one would you pick and why? It is a very difficult choice, as each member has different preferences on this EP. However, in terms of popularity, it seems that the song "Raise Your Glass" seems to convince many people. This is a tribute to Lemmy Kilmister. A good argument in itself. The last words are for you. If you have a message to convey, here’s your chance!
